I have a birthday coming up in a few days and I felt called to talk about the importance of birthdays today. Birthdays are a time of celebration for people around the globe. Every day millions of babies are born into this world. Different family dynamics, social and economic situations, religious or spiritual backgrounds and a myriad of other factors imprint a kaleidoscope of beliefs, ideas, attitudes, and behaviors on those souls as part of their human experience.
As a child I know I had birthday parties because my mother saved photos of some of them, but for the life of me I cannot recall a single one. In fact, when I think back on my childhood and teenage years I am hard pressed to recall many happy times, but I know I had them. There are photos and people in my family who talk about some of the things we did. So why would it be so difficult for me to recall any? That’s a question I’ve asked myself over and over. The conclusion I have come to is that we are here to experience everything that physical embodiment has to offer and although some of us are born with a predisposition toward optimism and others are born with a tendency toward pessimism, our circumstances and environment have everything to do with our expression of either trait. I do believe that those born with a more optimistic propensity will eventually find their way back to that disposition and vice versa.
My mother told me when I was very young I was a bubbly, joyful, wide-open child who watched everything and everyone with a big grin and lots of laughter. Unfortunately circumstances and experiences in the place I was raised stole my innocence at a very young age and I became extremely disheartened, anxious, and fearful of everything and everyone. I learned quickly that you could not trust anyone and the world was a very dangerous place. I guess you could say that the joy and light was scared right out of me. It took me 30 years to get it back. My older sister, on the other hand, came into this world kicking and screaming, angry at the world from the moment she took her first breath, (according to my mother). As a child and a teenager she seemed fearless and resentful to me and I worshipped the ground she walked on. I think all children look up to their older siblings. She did some inner work as an adult, dealt with her anger and is a very kind, generous woman. She moved to another state many years ago and her environment and experiences have made her very distrustful and fearful. I also did inner work and am now much more trusting of people and life and look for the good in everything. It’s interesting to me how our original dispositions show up in our lives now, different expressions of the same traits we exhibited as young children. We both still have our struggles, challenges and slip ups where we do, say, or react from old patterns and programming, but on the whole we make a conscious effort to recognize our triggers and our self-imposed limitations and work on them as we go along.
So what does all of this have to do with birthdays? Well each and every one of us is a unique expression of our sum total of experiences and the lens through which we perceive and process those experiences. We are also unique in our physical characteristics, our reasoning, our gifts, talents, skills, and dreams. Each and every one of us may share similarities, but there are no two exactly alike. Take identical twins and triplets for instance. They may look exactly alike to someone who doesn’t know them, but to their family and close friends it’s easy to tell them apart. They have different mannerisms, tones, facial expressions, likes and dislikes, talents, skills and dispositions most likely. When you stop and think about it you realize how absolutely special each and every person on this planet truly is. Just like in nature, animals, plants, grains of sand, drops of water may all look similar, but in reality they are each as unique as every snowflake. There will never be another you, as you are right now, in this moment in time on this earth, ever! You are one of a kind, magnificent and extraordinary in this lifetime as you are in every lifetime. Your features, your hair, your skin, your voice, your memories, your experiences, your family, your passions, your dreams, your abilities, talents, gifts, expressions, perceptions, and all of the other bits and pieces that make you who you are cannot be duplicated in exactly the same way as they are right now.
You are a gift and a treasure to this world no matter how you express yourself because you are here! You are showing up in the best way you know how at every moment and with each new experience you have the capacity and the ability to create yourself anew as the highest and greatest version of you that you can conceive. To some of us that may not appear true, but looks can be deceiving. None of us know the soul contracts or experiences another soul desires to express in this lifetime. Although humanity seems to have a stronger capacity to create pain, suffering, and atrocities could it be because we as a collective are still in our infancy of the human experience and have been programmed by our governments, religions, cultures, and communities to judge, hate, fear, or take retribution upon anyone and anything we see as a threat or unlike ourselves? Could it be that we have become so entrenched in the human experience most of us have forgotten who we truly are to the extent that this physical life is the sum total of us and we must take what we can get from whoever we can get it from at all costs just to survive. Do you think that many people on this planet have any idea they are an eternal energy being of light and love with unlimited powers of creation and transformation?
This beautiful earth has been enmeshed in a dense vibrational energy of humanity’s creation that has kept us trapped in old patterns, archetypes and illusions of lack, scarcity, limitation, disease, poverty, hatred, resentment, anger, rage, desperation, condemnation, separation, and subjugation. We have finally reached a critical tipping point of awakening where the collective vibration has risen above this paradigm and we are all heading toward a beautiful new world where abundance, kindness, respect, equality, generosity, compassion, collaboration, empathy, honesty, health, prosperity, and love are the foundations we build our families, communities, societies, economics, and governments upon. We are all embarking on a new golden age of humanity where we finally begin to express and live by our collective namesake – humankind.
So the next time you celebrate your birthday, remember that you chose to be here during a monumental shift in humanity. You may not remember why you came. It may have been as simple as being a witness to this epic event or as big as being a leader in the transformation. Regardless of whether you fulfilled your contract or not, you are just as valuable and important to this world as everyone else. We all have something to see, experience, offer, share, do, or be that the world would never know had we not incarnated exactly when we did. You in your human costume have no idea how profoundly your words, behaviors, and actions impact those around you, who in turn impact many others rippling out like a wave of influences that resonate throughout the Field of Life. Something as simple as a smile to a stranger on the street can shift someone’s mood and change the whole trajectory of their day. So look yourself in the mirror and offer yourself the love and appreciation you deserve today and every day. You are a multidimensional wonder that holds the power, potential, and limitlessness of the universe in every cell and atom of your being. Celebrate life with all your heart and soul as the unique expression of creative energy you are!
